Wireless Prices Being Driven Lower by Competition
The FCC is considering the implementation of new rules for wireless providers that will enhance competition leading to lower prices for consumers. The Wireless Competition Act passed in 2014 has also enhanced competition by allowing cell phone subscribers to “unlock” their numbers and go to any wireless carrier of choice.
Since the introduction of widespread cellular service over 20 years ago, the market for wireless services and products has expanded at incredible rates. Traditional landline products and services have recently begun to be dismantled and shutdown as wireless providers have consumed the telephone communications market nationwide.
The combination of numerous wireless service providers, along with advances in wireless technology speed and capacity have created a very competitive market for wireless services. A dramatic drop in landline usage has elevated service rates as traditional telephone line revenue has dropped because of fewer subscribers.
